Free tools

After you have purchased your domain and hosting, which I have recommended for you to do, you now have a great amount of free tools out there that you can add to your blog and use to make your new online business work.

WordPress being the first that I would plugin to your blog.  WordPress has so many additional free plugins to it that you could spend hours playing around with the numerous themes and add-ons.

Email.  Google Mail or Gmail seems to be the choice for most and Google has so many other bits and pieces that you can sign into and use.

For any business to work, you need customers and for Internet Marketing or online business we talk about traffic.

There are a few ways to get free traffic to your blog.

  • Oil Rig Hopping.  Go visit other peoples blogs and leave ‘valuable’ comments on their latest posts.  This way people get to see your name (and blog link) and hopefully they will value your comments as interesting and helpful, visit your blog and subscribe and follow you.
  • Social Networks.   Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and all the other ones listed on the social network banner below.  Use them to their full potential.
  • Blog Directories.  Get your blog registered on blog directories such as Networked Blogs.  You will see the link down the right hand column of my pages.
  • Other Forums.  Seek them out.  I’ll start you off with one.  The Warrior Forum is a fantastic place for Internet Marketers.

Your hosting package may include free auto responders and email list programs.  However, most advise to purchase these.  Ask around and get some recommendations.

Track your visitors, find out where they are in the world and get your statistics.  There is Google Analytics and there is also Feedjit, which you will see down the right hand column of this blog.  I’m sure there are many other to choose from.

Monetise your site.  You will have probably heard of Google Adense.  There are many Affiliate Programs / Ad Programs you could apply to, all free!  Have a look at  some of the links on the right hand column.

There are so many other freebies out there that you may already know about.  Use them and be successful.

Good luck!

Joshua

Free v Paid

They say that the best things in life are free.  To a great extent, that is true as many of these things are not material and money can’t buy.

However, there are also some things in life that you will need to spend money on to move forward and succeed and that is true for your online, internet marketing business.

I have tried to start my ‘work at home’ business so many times without having to spend money.  So many of the $37 products state that you don’t need a website, you don’t need a product, you don’t need a list, etc, etc……  and that is true, you don’t need any of that to BUY the product but you will need all of that and more to make the product work.

I’ve tried blogging on a free platform but it is very restricting of what you are allowed access to and how you can use it.  You don’t have your own domain or website therefore, you have little control of you can do.  You will find it difficult to apply for affiliate adverts, for example.

Buying your domain and your hosting makes all the difference.  You will have complete control of your online business.  Your credibility increases and people will take you more seriously.

If I may squeeze a little affiliate sales pitch in here, I recommend D9 Hosting  Go see what they have to offer.  My experience with them has been fantastic.  Depending on which hosting package you choose with them, they will even throw in a FREE domain name… WHOO HOO!!

One other very important purchase you will want to make is a Coaching Program.  You will need someone to guide you, to show you the way to success.

To find a mentor, do your research, speak to people who have been successful, speak to people you know and trust.  There are many successful ‘gurus ‘ (I hate that word) out there who have made it in the internet marketing world but many factors will determine who you choose as a mentor.  One of the biggest factors?  Cost!

I’ve looked and I’ve searched and I came across, by chance, a webinar being hosted by a guy named Marc Milburn.  I’d seen his name around but hadn’t taken much notice, however, the pitch for his webinar peaked my interest and so I logged on and listened to what he had to offer.

I was very impressed with his presentation and I seem to resonate with him and what he was promising to deliver really won me over.

I bought his coaching program Online Wealth Blueprint and I’m glad I did.  24 weeks delivered in weekly modules, covering everything you will need to succeed, which consist of excellent training videos, loads of bonus stuff, excellent contact and support and a great student forum.  I’m not even half way through and I have learned so much from him.

As far as I know, Online Wealth Blueprint is closed to new members just now, however, word has it that Marc might be opening up a few more places on this coaching program.  If he does, then grab it with both hands!

Stay tuned to get the next release of Online Wealth Blueprint.  I’ll announce more details here as they happen.

So, in summary, you will need to invest in your future.  Be prepared to make some purchases but once you do and you have your own domain, website, hosting and coaching program, there’ll be no stopping you.

There are many free tools out there that you can use to enhance your website and help you succeed and I’ll cover some of them in my next post.

Stay successful.

A ‘newbie’ mistake

Hi everyone

I know it’s been two weeks since I last posted and some of you were worried in case I got lost.  In a sense, I did!

After me telling you to focus, what did I do?  Yeah, I got distracted and lost myself in other things that I could add to my website, learning how social media works, registering and updating my profiles in several places and other stuff I could do in the future.  I thought it was only a couple of days since I last posted.

Tell me off then!

“Where have you been, Joshua?”   “Practise what you preach, Josh!”   “Don’t forget about us, matey!”

And you would be absolutely right!

Enthusiasm and determination is high and my time hasn’t been wasted.  It’s still a huge learning curve for me and I have been learning and networking with others.

BUT……

I have no excuses.  I could make up lots of them.  I could say I did this on purpose to give a valuable lesson but I didn’t.  Instead, I got sucked in with information overload as I found other interesting things on my internet travels, tools that will be useful and I will share with you as time goes on but no excuses that I couldn’t spend 10 minutes on posting to my blog.

That’s all it takes, even give yourself 30 minutes at the beginning of your journey for posting.  you don’t have to post every hour or everyday – information overload – and people could switch off to you or worse still, unsubscribe to you!   AAAARRRRGGGGHH!!

At least once a week put 30 minutes aside to post to your readers, followers and subscribers, after all, these are the most important people in your internet world.  Without them?…… well you will find it extremely difficult to make it in internet marketing.

So thanks to all who were concerned about me and worried.  I’m back and raring to go.

STAY FOCUSED!!!  (and that includes you, Josh!)

Joshua

OOPS!

Hi folks

Just a quickie today but nevertheless still an important point.

Do not continue to work on your blog or website or any other important work when you are tired.  You are more likely to do mistakes and do an even bigger F.U.B.A.R. event.

I was working the other evening, eyes closing, really tired and the next thing I know my blog was gone.  Don’t know what I did, what I pressed but it was gone, nowhere to be found.  I was gutted!

Luckily enough my hosting company had backups of everything and I only had to tell them which backup date I wanted to have my blog restored to.

What a relief!  So we’re back in business.

Thanks to the team at D9 Hosting for coming to my rescue.

The moral of this story… take some time out when you have to.  Don’t push yourself to the limit as you’ll become unproductive and a liability to yourself.  There’s always tomorrow!

Josh

The first piece of advice….

The first piece of advice I ever got from my mentor, even before I signed up to the coaching programme was “go on a diet!”

WHAT?!?!

Go on an email diet is what I was told. Clear out and unsubscribe to all the hype and sales, only keep on in your inbox those couple of marketers, dare I say, Gurus, who resonate with you and have actually contributed something positive to you.

I did and I’m glad I did.

You see, since 2008 I have been giving my email address out to almost every sales page I came across hoping to find THE overnight, one-click piece of software that would make me a millionaire.  Guess what?  I’m still looking!

My inbox was bulging, about to burst, that I had to create folders and organise the hundreds of emails I was getting everyday.  I even got to the stage where I created filters to automatically put emails into their respective folders.  There are literally hundreds if not thousands of emails I’ve never seen.

Don’t be pulled in all directions.  Don’t get continually distracted with ‘the next big thing’ to come into your inbox.  Clear your inbox.  Do some spring cleaning even though it’s nearly the fall.  It really helped me and now I CAN see the woods beyond the trees.

Be focused.  Be successful.

Josh

Quiet week

Hi all

It’s been a quiet week for some reason.

I’m working in the background catching up with tweaking here and there and setting up different elements of my affilliate and internet marketing business.

I’ve been finding my way around The Warrior Forum and starting posting but boy, do things move fast there!

It is a great source of information and a a huge number of internet and affiliate marketers from complete ‘newbie’ like me to the very experienced who have been in this business for a number of years.  If you are just starting out on this journey then it is a must to register yourself and learn from others.

I’ve been away from home for the last 5 days so I need to get stuck in again and post more to my blog, update my profiles on FB and Twitter and get some activity going.

Catch you soon.

Josh

Achievements so far

Hi Everyone

I must admit that I thought ‘blogging’ would be difficult.  I’ve never kept a diary and I always hated writing essays and stuff like that at school but blogging is working out good.  It only takes about 10 minutes just to put something up.

So what have I achieved so far?

Remember I told you that I had taken on a mentor?  Well I will tell you who that mentor is in a couple of weeks.  As I told you, I would really like to check stuff out wherever possible before I recommend to you.  I have just completed my 30 day refund period and I want to make sure that the coaching program still delivers.

However, I do need to say that everything about the coaching program so far has been FANTASTIC.  I can honestly say that it has over delivered on my expectations and I’m so hoping that this continues.

I have experience with computers and the internet but I would have struggled to get this far so soon on my own.  I have just completed module 4 of 24 and have found the training material first class.

The video tutorials are so step by step to follow and nothing has been missed out.  I thought that releasing one module each week was a mistake but I have to say that it was a good decision of my mentor to do so because there is so much (but not overloading) material and additional training videos that the week to do your homework is just about right.

I have bought my domain and hosting.

I’ve added WordPress.

I’ve started blogging!

I’ve learned how to tweak my blog – themes, layout, etc

I’ve opened up Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts AND added the links to my blog.  Also, I’ve learned how to link them all to my blog to be updated automatically -amazing!

I’ve learned some free traffic gaining tactics.

I’ve just been learning about building a list and had an introduction about creating my own products.

….and that’s just to module 4.  I have another 20 modules of fantastic topics to go.

I really hope that this continues and I WILL keep you updated on my progress and introduce you to my mentor real soon.

Stay tuned!

Josh

Truth be told

Hi all

Just thought I’d get some more practise on blogging and add a new post.

I’ll be up front and honest with you from the beginning and as such I would like you to know that Joshua Dalton is my company name.  My real name is not that catchy for a business nor is it the type of name that’s soft sounding, if you know what I mean, it doesn’t roll off the tongue easily.  My real name I shorten to Ed.

I’ve never traded as my own name, even for my offline businesses.  I’ve always had a great company name, a brand.

A brand is very important and many internet marketers don’t  use their own name for reasons they only know but I’m telling you upfront to be transparent with you, which I hope will show you my intentions are to be true to you.

If you look at some of the most successful businesses, online and off, they all have a brand – Amazon, eBay, Facebook, Youtube, Wal-Mart and here in the UK there are such brands as Tesco, Argos and Eddie Stobart.  How many of the UK folks are Eddie spotters?  You know you are!

And so my brand is Joshua Dalton International Marketing.

Joshua is just a name I like and Dalton is the character that was played by Patrick Swayze in the film, Roadhouse.  Great movie!  I always thought that was a brilliant name that made such an impact.  I was also debating on Axel as a name, like Axel Rose of Guns’n'Roses and Eddie Murphy’s character in Berverly Hills Cop but I couldn’t match a cool surname to that.

Joshua Dalton International Marketing.  Why not Internet Marketing?  Well, I’m hoping that sometime in the future I can expand this business offline too and Internet Marketing just wouldn’t be right for that.

So there you have it.  You will find me as Joshua Dalton on the internet.

I have been dragged, kicking and screaming out of the dark ages and finally have a Facebook page and soon I will have links to my Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages showing here on my blog.

Be back soon.

Josh (Ed) !

In The Beginning……

Hey folks, thanks for coming to visit.

My name is Joshua Dalton, call me Josh or JD if you like, and I come from Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh.

I am 42 years old and I have had a couple of careers in management and in the financial sector here in the UK and I have been lucky enough to have my own businesses, two successful and another was a real ‘crash and burn’ experience.

I have moved away from my first business and I am currently still working away on my second business which is in the field of holistic or complementary therapies which I enjoy greatly as I get to meet a fantastic array of people and I get to help them in several different ways which really suits my personality.

My third business venture was a major flop and it was all my fault because I thought I knew it all … HA HA…… and failed to research and plan.  As the saying goes ‘Fail to plan, plan to fail‘ and it is so true.

SO why am I here on the internet?

I want to move on in life – lifestyle, financial security and ultimately, although Scotland is such a beautiful place, to move to the USA and build a new life there – and I believe that an internet business will allow me to do all those things and it means that I can take my online business wherever I go.  However, I have to be able to walk before I can run!

I first looked at internet marketing in 2008 and hurriedly registered an account with Clickbank as that’s what it seemed everyone was pointing towards.  I haven’t used it since!  I got lost in it all.  I was constantly looking for a place to start and I signed up for newsletters on practically every site I visited and for the last 3 years my inbox has been bursting at the seams.  I got nowhere.

A few months ago, I went back to look at creating an online business only to find that little had changed and I still got lost.

I have folders full of those $37, $47, $97 products that I have bookmarked or I’m receiving newsletters from promising the overnight success story is only a click away but as I have quite a business head on me and plenty of experience I knew that the promises would be broken.  So I kept on looking.  Linking from here to there and seeing so many successful guru names, I finally landed on a page promoting a webinar for this successful marketer.  I attended the webinar and it turned out to be one of the best things I’ve found to get me going at internet marketing.

I had found myself a teacher, a mentor, who was offering a coaching program.  I went with my gut feeling and signed up on that webinar and sent my first payment.

I will post about this webinar and my mentor later.  Why later?  I am just passing my 30 day refund period and call me cynical but I want to wait until after this refund period to ensure that the program still delivers the goods before I put my seal of approval to my mentor and the coaching program.

That’s something that I will tell you from the start, here and now.  Once I get up and running and familiarise myself the inner workings of blogging and internet marketing, I will only recommend something to you if I feel right with it.  You might see ads here on my blog which will be random, like Google Adsense, but I will give you direct links to my recommendations, so follow my journey and please comment and share on yours.

I will blog about some of these issues later.

You will see that not everything is set-up and working yet so keep with me on that while I learn.  Also, you will probably see changes from time to time as I tweak the style and add bit and pieces to the blog but for now I just want to say Hi and introduce myself.

Josh
